Glendalough Monastic Site

This early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and from this developed the “Monastic City”. Most of the buildings that survive today date from the 10th through 12th centuries. Despite attacks by Vikings over the years, Glendalough thrived as one of Ireland’s great ecclesiastical foundations and schools of learning until the Normans destroyed the monastery in 1214 A.D. and the dioceses of Glendalough and Dublin were united. Close to the monastic city is the interactive centre.

Greenan Maze and working farm

Situated in the beautiful countryside of the Wicklow hills, one hour south of Dublin, pupils can enjoy wandering around the farm in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  This small family farm aims to preserve our wildlife areas and natural habitats in the beautiful Wicklow hills.  The traditional farm is full of biodiversity, educational nature fun activities and is a great day out for school groups.

Wicklow Goal

Take an unforgettable journey through an original prison building, telling the stories of the men, women and children imprisoned under British rule over two centuries of turbulent history. A fully-engaging audio-visual experience features holographic appearances of the Gaoler and characters from the prison who share their stories of the times.

A Virtual Reality Experience – The Gates of Hell – brings visitors back in time as active witnesses to the Gaol as it would have been two centuries ago.
